Be the Fragrance of Life
by Susan Bernard
The fall season brings with it many kinds of aromas that are not associated with other seasons. As a child, one of my favorite aromas was burning leaves. We were allowed to burn the raked piles in front of our house. You can no longer do that, but last evening someone was burning leaves and the scent brought back many memories.
Thanksgiving brings the lovely aroma of turkey roasting, of pies baking in the oven and other special foods that are prepared. Perhaps a loved one arrives that you haven’t seen for a long time. As you hug them, the aroma of their perfume brings back wonderful memories of times spent with them.
The Word of God encourages us to be fragrant women.
2 Corinthians 2:15, 16 reminds us:
“We are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved
and those who are perishing.
To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.”
In Ephesians 5:2 we read:
“Live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up
as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
What a privilege we have this Thanksgiving season to love others as Jesus has loved us! Then we too will be a pleasant aroma to God. Every time we minister to someone and they receive Christ as Savior, we are the fragrance of life! As we extend love and forgiveness to those in our church family and our earthly family, we spread forth a beautiful fragrance.
Our world is increasingly filled with evil and unpleasant talk and actions. We can be different! Our lives can demonstrate unselfish, generous love to all those we meet.
We can take the love of Jesus to the World and be…’ the fragrance of life’!
May you have a blessed Thanksgiving!
